As we wrap up the first quarter of 2011, signs of rebirth are abundant
but it’s still not time to let down your guard—after all, we’re still firmly planted
in that big tease otherwise known as “Spring in Chicago.”
Economic indicators are cautiously optimistic—yesterday, the U.S. Census Bureau
reported an increase in profits for large retail corporations for 4th quarter 2010.
These figures are up from 3rd quarter 2010
but down year-over-year from 4th quarter 2009.
Any way you slice it, the storm has not passed.
The challenge remains for both small and large businesses to turn a profit.
But there is an upside: nearly everyone I talk to is re-thinking their business strategy
and working to increase profit margins—even incrementally.
Challenges spur creativity and innovation.
Complacence is not an option—or an ingredient for success.
